Mission:
E1 "Shadows of the Empire"
Location: Star Fleet Command, Earth
Timeline: OctoberDuring Leave, For Halo and Voyager Crew
As the grand hall fills with anticipation, Fleet Admiral Pat Lovell and Admiral Kate Harlow stand near the podium, exchanging quiet words in preparation for the evening’s formalities. The soft lighting casts a warm glow across the polished floors, reflecting the pride and unity of Starfleet’s highest officers as they prepare to honor Commodore Emily Janeway.
Neteri stood next to Midnight, holding him by the lead rope. The whole preparation had made him nervous and skittish. Prancing around and tugging on the rope caused concern, but only when Neteri gently spoke to him did he begin to calm down. Then, a young officer took control of Midnight and heard Emily's voice.
"Young man! Let the Major handle the horse, and you'll get lost. Neteri is doing her duty. Now go!" barked Janeway, looking at a shocked officer as he fled.
The transparent glass double doors glide open, and the Starfleet officers enter in a dignified line, each dressed in the refined 2401 Starfleet dress uniform, which exudes authority and honor. Leading the way is Admiral Christopher Townsend, his gaze steady and proud. His dress uniform—a sharply tailored midnight blue jacket with silver trim on the high collar and shoulders—fits flawlessly, the Starfleet insignia glinting on his chest as he steps forward. Beside him walks his wife, Commander Kate Townsend, her arm lightly resting on his. She, too, wears the elegant dress uniform, her rank insignia gleaming on the suitable collar and her Starfleet delta badge in silver above her heart. The two share a brief, supportive glance, a quiet strength radiating between them as they proceed into the room.
Next enters Vice Admiral N'Simi, Fleet Admiral Lovell’s Chief of Staff, moving with a calm, purposeful stride. Their pristine and perfectly pressed uniform reflects their poised and collected presence. N'Simi’s focused expression and the subtle silver accents on the shoulders underscore their role as Lovell’s trusted right hand.
Following closely behind, Rear Admiral James Akar steps in, his uniform similarly adorned with a silver-trimmed collar and insignia. His calm authority fills the room, his dark uniform symbolizing years of loyal service. Beside him is Commodore David Dunne, whose steady gaze and precise uniform convey a deep respect for the occasion.
Commodore Emily Janeway strides into the grand opening ceremony, commanding attention in her pristine Federation dress uniform. Her collar glimmers with rank pins and emblems that reflect her storied past, each symbolizing a tale of bravery and honor. A ceremonial saber hangs elegantly from her belt, enhancing her formidable presence.
As Janeway’s tall dress boots clicked confidently against the polished floor of the walkway, she mounted her magnificent Friesian horse, already prepped for the occasion. The atmosphere at Starfleet Command Headquarters crackles with anticipation as she prepares for her triumphant entrance.
In the grand hall, admirals and high-ranking officials gather in the hallway, eagerly awaiting her arrival. The horse is adorned with a traditional Federation blanket featuring the Delta symbol under the saddle and a piece of horse tack across its chest. A beautiful stallion’s bridle, marked with a golden Delta symbol—the emblem of the Starfleet Federation—rests prominently on the horse’s forehead.
Midnight was finally ready, or at least so everyone thought.
Commander Ardon Devasia was in attendance in his crisp, brand-new dress whites. Why not? It was Commodore Janeway who rescued him and his shipmates from that hellhole Gorn planet. On top of that, it was her birthday.
In the courtyard, Commodore Emily Janeway sat atop her majestic Friesian stallion, a stunning horse. As Janeway gracefully acknowledged the assembled attendees entering the grand hall, she radiated poise and authority, patiently waiting for the high-ranking official to announce her presence when the announcement was about to get started.
Situs was just about to greet and make small talk with Dr. Ardon. He never did get to congratulate him on his promotion, but Janeway on the horse drew his attention. Could that be Midnight? He had heard so much about that horse, but this was the first time he saw it in person.
"Look at that...What manner of mount is that?" Ardon asked. There were no animals like that on Bolarus IX. In fact he had never seen anything quite like it. A magnificent animal. Ardon would try to get a closer look at it after the awards ceremony.
As the ceremony reaches its pinnacle, Fleet Admiral Pat Lovell steps forward to the podium. The soft murmur of the gathered officers falls to silence, and all eyes turn to Lovell as he begins to speak, his voice steady and resonant.
At this point, Neteri, gently leads Midnight who was a bit more jumpy by now, prancing but not as much as before, as the ceremony began. As the Commodore had so ordered before the ceremony was finalized that Neteri was to lead Midnight into the award ceremony.
"Today," he begins, "we are here to honor a Starfleet officer whose dedication, bravery, and loyalty to the Federation have been nothing short of exemplary. Commodore Emily Janeway has shown time and again her unwavering commitment to Starfleet’s ideals, her ability to lead, and her courage in the face of the unknown."
Commodore Janeway, a picture of determination, dismounts her majestic horse and strides confidently toward the podium. "Today marks a significant moment for her—a day she has anticipated as she prepares to receive a prestigious award to celebrate her birthday." The air is charged with excitement as she approaches, her heart racing with pride and anticipation. As she descends toward the podium, her dress uniform and black cavalry boots echo on the floor.
"Commodore Janeway," Lovell continues, holding a finely crafted medal encased in a box lined with deep blue velvet. "It is my honor to bestow upon you the Starfleet Medal of Valor, a recognition of your extraordinary service, your bravery, and the countless lives you've touched along your journey."
Lovell opens the box and lifts the medal, a shining piece that symbolizes bravery and heroism. He steps closer to Janeway and pins it carefully to her dress uniform, his hand lingering for a moment on her shoulder as he meets her gaze. "You have made Starfleet proud, and you have made us all proud," he says, his voice quiet yet profound.
The hall erupts into applause as Lovell steps back, and Janeway’s colleagues and fellow officers rise to their feet in a standing ovation. Admiral Christopher Townsend nods to her with pride, while Commander Kate Townsend’s smile shines with admiration. Vice Admiral N'Simi and Rear Admiral James Akar applaud steadily, their respect for their colleague evident.
Commander Richardson, being chief of security, had one hand on his phaser and one hand on his P.a.d.d., he was using the security system to surveil the current room and a 100-meter radius. It was not that he didn't trust his fellow officers, but it would only take one prankster to activate the Fire suppression system, to send everyone to medical, the Halon spray was not toxic, but protocols still required everyone exposed to make a prompt trip to medical. So not only would it disrupt the agenda; It would embarrass the Captain, a large number of admirals, and himself. He observed a large quantity of ship's crew heading towards the room entrance but observed them turn left when they realized there was a large number of brass here. That was one way to avoid party crashers, post a help wanted sign. [Wanted, spare crew members to wait on the visiting VIP's. ] It was amazing how many of the enlisted personnel abruptly ran from the event. He resumed his surveillance of the surrounding areas.
Lovell offers her a warm smile and a firm handshake, signaling the end of the presentation. As they step back, the officers and gathered guests raise their glasses in a toast, honoring Commodore Janeway and her exceptional contribution to Starfleet, marking this moment as one of celebration, unity, and respect for the ideals that Starfleet represents.
"Commodore Janeway, congratulations on your award and may I offer you a most sincere Happy Birthday. Tell me what was that magnificent animal you were riding in the courtyard?" Ardon asked.
''Its true, a horse is among the fist animals humans domesticated. It completely changed the course of our species. They can be very friendly too. I bet you can even make it eat out of your hand'' Situs said, joining the small talk and murmurs. ''Happy birthday, Commodore'' he said while raising his glass.
"I have never seen anything like it certainly nothing like it on Bolarus iX," Ardon replied.
Janeway spoke to her fellow officers here in attendance at her award ceremony alongside her celebrating her birthday: “I am grateful for both of your thoughtful comments on the horse and my birthday wishes for myself.” She said towards Situs and Devasia since Janeway was their savior to rescue them from the planet.
Townsend walked up to Emily. "Congrats And Happy Birthday, We all count days till we hit teens then we start to realize what that number really means" Chris said with a laugh. Kate hit him in the elblow. "Anyway, how's life been, Haven't had the time to chat due to our missions. Since Kate had just switched over to the matirey uniform that allowed Star Fleet Officers who happen to be pregnant while assigned to have the uniforms till. She hated it, It was too tight in some places, And plus it showed off how big her damn belly had gotten, Whatever, Only a few more months till no more, only crying baby and diapers. Kate sighed, “It was one hellva day.” she said.
Janeway’s expression of unease as she turned around to talk to Townsend. “ Well, thank you for the compliment. Considering I might outlive you since I have a new physical body and cybernetic heart, I’m still waiting to track down a husband. Perhaps you will find me a husband with Federation roots who will be in my future life someday. I’m grateful that there is not another foot to the grave. Also, in the last mission, I proved to you and Lovell that I could uphold my duties and responsibilities as the Voyager's Commanding officer. If any other threats of the galaxy dare us to challenge us, I will furiously protect them for the safety of our great federation.” She said, trying to keep her voice down and away from Katie’s not to hear the rest of their conversation. Considering she’s not even allowed to be hearing about it, despite the marital relationship status, she’s obligated to attend the occasion with her husband's high-ranking Admiral .” Janeway’s guarded tone of voice .” since there's more information considering my incident Chris.” Janeway responded, still holding her drink in one hand, was broken down into pieces in her hand. She didn't care since there was a cracking noise in the drinking glass. She was holding one hand broken down into pieces in her hand to the point that the shards of glass were digging into her hand, trying to hide the bloodstained hand from behind her back as she walked away from Katie after her friend walked away with her steed towards the front of the courtyard of the reception area. Commodore Janeway politely excused herself to walk away from the group of people gave her a friendly shake of hands,
"I must congratulate both of you on having a child. I hope it brings you peace and joy in this world." Neteri replied to Kate Townsend as Neteri walking off with Midnight and Janeway towards the main entrance where the courtyard is located set up for midnight to give him some time to get relaxing after being able to deal with the number of people who have been able to attend Janeway’s award ceremony along with her birthday and celebration of her accomplishments of her career of the beginning of a new accomplishment for his owner.
The catering staff gracefully moves from table to table, filling the air with the enticing aromas of freshly prepared dishes. Among the guests, Commodore Janeway eagerly anticipates her birthday cake, which is adorned with delightful October-themed icing. The cake features a rich, decadent chocolate filling topped with velvety purple frosting, perfectly capturing the essence of the Halloween season. Vibrant orange sprinkles are artfully arranged on top to create the whimsical shape of a spider, adding a playful touch to the festive celebration.
In a charming gesture, the catering staff has written in icing, "Congratulations, Janeway, and have a wonderful birthday!" This thoughtful detail enhances the warmth and joy of her special day. Neteri and Commodore Janeway take their seats near the area where Midnight can go outside, allowing the festivities to continue as the event approaches its closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, the crew of Voyager, the flagship Halo, and all the admirals of the Department of the Commander-in-Chief have received their share of cake as they await Janeway's closing speech. Once everything was set up just right, everyone took their seats, their eyes focused on the podium for Commodore Janeway to walk up and deliver her closing ceremony speech.
The cake was delicious. Ardon thought, Sweet creamy and decadent.
“I before we all leave tonight just wanted to would like to say that my heart like to say, everyone, thank you for joining me in celebrating my award for my career achievements and my heroism in accepting a medal of valor along with my birthday she began.
As the final touches were made to the venue, a sense of anticipation filled the air. Guests took their seats, eagerly awaiting the moment when the spotlight would shine on the podium. Each person held a generous slice of cake, its rich aroma mingling with the soft sounds of chatter and laughter that danced around the room.
Finally, the crowd hushed as Commodore Janeway stepped up to the podium, her presence commanding immediate attention. She looked out at the assembled guests, her expression a mix of gratitude and pride.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” she began, her voice steady yet filled with emotion. “I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for being here today. It’s an honor to have you join me in celebrating not just my career achievements, but also the unyielding spirit of heroism I’ve been privileged to embody while accepting this medal of valor.”
Janeway paused, allowing the weight of her words to settle in as the audience listened intently, inspired by her loyalty and courageous dedication to the Federation. "I am committed to upholding all the principles that our Federation stands for," she said.
"Here here, Commodore. That is something we can all get behind." Ardon spoke up with happiness .
As the closing time of the event approached, Janeway stood proudly at the podium while the crowd applauded her. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who had attended and taken time out of their schedules to honor their fellow Starfleet member, Commodore Janeway. This occasion was truly memorable for her as she reflected on her many accomplishments and the lives she had touched throughout her journey.
The admirals had spoken earlier, but this moment was extraordinary for her. "I know I’m just a Commodore," she stated, "but I want to express my sincere happiness to everyone who participated in and attended this event. It fills my heart with joy to have such wonderful camaraderie by my side today!"
At that moment, the atmosphere of the reception hall erupted with energy as everyone in the room joined in a thunderous round of applause. Cheers and shouts of support rang out as they rallied around Janeway, creating an unforgettable moment. In unison, they called her name, allowing Janeway to see the faces of the crew members she had rescued from the dangerous Gorn planet. She had helped them during the evacuation process, saving them from certain death. Commodore Janeway will always be remembered as their savior and a hero of the Starfleet Federation for centuries to come.
