"Oh my stars!"

Mission: Road To Recovery
Location: Turbolift to Bridge
Timeline: After Janeway's return to work

Neteri was finishing up a report when a shadow caught her eye. Getting up quickly, she flew down the corridor to the figure, just getting into the lift. Her sudden stop knocked both into the lift, and seeing who it was, she hugged her best friend, Emily.

Emily looked frail, with visible surgical scars, as she hugged her best friend, Neteri. After being away from work for two months to recover from a near-death experience, Emily had been through a lot. Two months ago, Emily had been fatally poisoned by an unknown substance that attacked her cybernetic heart, causing her organs to shut down. She spent weeks in biocontainment and then had to be transported back to Earth for multiple surgeries and a heart transplant. Finally, back at work, she greeted her best friend with a warm "Nice to see you again onboard."

"I thought I lost you...my stars, you look like someone who got into a fight!" Neteri said, crying on her shoulder. She could sense Emily's emotional, happy feelings.

Emily embraced Neteri tightly, soothingly saying, "I've missed you so much. I felt like I couldn't go on without my best friend."

"Emily, come over to the couch and relax. Your body doesn't need any more stress," Neteri said softly, gently guiding her to the couch where she initially tapped.

"Emily, you survived the worst of the physical and then the mental part, and you made it like a champion. To overcome that is the strongest person I have the honor to know," said Neteri, still holding a shaking, crying sister or best friend.

Emily sat by Neteri and held her close as she wept on her shoulder. "I feel so grateful to have a second chance at life and to have you back by my side. You've been my Best friend like a family member to me for as long as I can remember, and Now, we can journey together aboard the Voyager." Emily calmly hugged Neteri even tighter, her strong embrace providing comfort. Despite still wearing her uniform, the deep scars on Emily's muscular body served as a reminder of the challenges she had overcome, a testament to her strength and resilience.

"Come Emily, the lift is here. You have more strength than you give credit your self", Neteri said as she helped Emily into the lift. "Bridge" saying loudly, and soon they were moving.

Emily rested calmly, propped on her friend's shoulder as the elevator moved. She felt a temporary peacefulness with her favorite friend, who has known her for years. Finally, she felt safe.

As the lift stopped at the bridge, Emily pulled herself together and walked as straight as she could and said, "OMG!!!!" and almost fell but Neteri caught her. Her knees buckled at the view screen as it revealed the black horse, actually, it was hers waiting for her on Earth.

Janeway turned happy to see the blackhorse on the Viewscearn “ it's my favorite horse.” said Janeway. The crewmate delivers a message to Janeway and her friend that Janeway’s going to be getting an award.

"Great I'm so happy for you.....wait...... You just said you and me are getting awards?????" Now neteri's legs buckled slightly, "So this is the reason we are going back to earth, but remember I am going to be with you the whole time holding on to his bridle. I'm going to try and not trip over his legs as I am leading him in!!!!," "OMG it's time to start getting ready for the party," Neteri said gently ushering Emily to her quarters. I'll be right back, gotta grab my stuff."

About 5 minutes later, Neteri returned wearing her black uniform with her pip's on the collar and her communicator on her chest, so I will be wearing this one and if they say no I can switch out to my dress whites. How's that for thinking...come in Commodore Janeway it is time to disembark" and both headed for the assembling area.
