It has been five days since the Romulan confrontation at New Romulus, and Townsend has been busy with reports related to the incident. After finishing the reports late at night, Townsend found himself with some free time before the start of Beta shift. To make use of his time, he decided to hit the gym.
Upon arriving at the gym, Townsend changed into his gym clothes, which consisted of shorts and a shirt. He then moved to the sandbags area, put on some punching gloves, and got into a ready stance to start punching the sandbag. There were a few officers in the gym, but they were mostly junior officers or crewmen who seemed surprised to see their commanding officer down there.
After punching the sandbag for an hour, Townsend moved onto the squat bar. Knowing that the bar itself was already 45lbs, he added 55lbs on each side, making a total of 155lbs. He then started with 20 reps before taking a break and then repeating it for another 20 minutes. His workout was intense, but he knew it was necessary to release some of the tension from the day's meetings.
Earlier in the day, Townsend had spent countless hours in meetings regarding the Romulan standoff. The meetings lasted for another four hours until the Yalt cargo was loaded. Townsend had already given orders to disembark for Yalt once the cargo was all loaded, so he didn't need to head to the bridge.
After exhausting himself with the weights, Townsend stopped, disassembled the bar, cleaned up, and headed for the locker room. He quickly showered before heading for Deck 22. Despite the exhaustion, Townsend felt satisfied with his workout and ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead.
Chris walked through the automatic doors as they slid open with a hiss, and immediately noticed the refreshing scent of nature. The air was pure and crisp, and it was a welcome change from the recycled air on the ship. The area was designed to resemble a small garden oasis on the spaceship, complete with at least nine tall trees and three times as many bushes, providing a natural atmosphere that was pleasing to the eye.
As he walked further, he spotted a little pond, which added to the serenity of the place. To his surprise, the pond was not just for show; it contained real fish that swam lazily in the clear water. The little stone pathways meandered around the area, leading to all three exits, and one led to a little seat near the pond that was perfect for relaxing.
This was deck 22, and it housed the Botanic Garden and recreation area, which was a thoughtful addition to the spaceship. Deck 20, on the other hand, had the Arboretum Cafe, which was a perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat. Finally, Deck 21 held the Memorial Terrace, which was a serene place where one could pay respects to the departed.
Chris spent about 20 more minutes there, watching the fish and taking in the natural beauty of the place. He had a lot on his mind, and he found that being in a natural environment helped him think more clearly. After a while, he decided to move on and explore more of the ship. As he walked out, he felt the faint vibration of the ship as it began to move away from the dock. It was time to get going.
As Chris opened the door to the library, he was immediately struck by the sight of several off-duty officers scattered throughout the room. He paused for a moment, taking in the unexpected sight. Then, remembering the reason for his visit, he made his way to the children's section, searching for Katie's favorite books.
After a few minutes of scanning the shelves, he located her most beloved titles: Tinker Bell, Frozen 1 and 2. He pulled them off the shelf and examined them closely, noting the well-worn covers and dog-eared pages.
With a sense of satisfaction, he checked out the books and headed back outside. Once he reached his quarters, he dropped off the books for Katie and set out on his way once again.
As Townsend entered the Stellar Cartography room, he knew exactly what he needed to check. The room was equipped with advanced technology that allowed him to map out the stars and get a better understanding of the surrounding space. However, before he could even begin his work, he heard a sudden beep from the console indicating an incoming transmission.
As he listened to the transmission from the USS Independence, his heart sank. Pirates had attacked the ship, and they needed urgent assistance. Townsend knew he had to act fast, so he quickly made his way to the bridge to inform Captain Black.
He found the Captain calmly monitoring the situation. Townsend briefed him on the distress call from the USS Independence, and they immediately sprang into action. The safety of their fellow Starfleet officers was their top priority, and they were determined to provide any assistance necessary.
